i have a few questions about rock pythons.?
hey. i was just wondering wether you need a level 1 or 2 reptile licence to own a rock python. and would it be a good idea to have one as a first snake? i am very commited to looking after my pets. i would like to handle the python as well. if not could you please mention some types of pythons that would be good for me. thank you.
Hey,The African Rock Python is the third largest snake in the world growing to an average size of 18 to 20 feet long, but can grow up to 28 feet long! This is not a snake for beginners! This snake could grow up to excess of 25 ft although most males will only grow to about 12 ft. These are much like the Burmese Python in size but they are a vicious snake and once over 15 ft should not be handled. They need at least a 7 ft x 6 ft room will a large bathing pool, a lot of respect is needed for these snakes.
So from all that you can tell they are not for novice keepers and you should consider a corn snake, ball python or a milk snake at most while you are a beginner.
Hope this helps and good luck.
P.S I got hurried into helping my brother with his african rock python and that was my first snake in a way and from the experience i can safely say i should have started with beginner snakes.
