is it smart to give aquatic Turtle Food to my african spurred tortoise.answer it pleez i need help.?
reptile vet told me it needs more calcium and my albino red eard slider eats reptomin.thats the name of the turtle food.it sais it has calcium and vitaminC.Im thinking of giving my tortoise a few sticks.is it smart?
No, it is not smart, not only for a little while. A Sulcata needs mainly high fiber, low protein foods such as Orchard grass, Bermuda grass, Timothy, and Indian Ricegrass, with some leafy green vegetables and very little fruit. Feeding a food like Reptomin that contains animal proteins sets him up for renal failure, pyramiding, or Metabolic Bone Disease.
Sulcatas get HUGE, more than 24" and 100lbs in a very short time, despite what the petstore may have told you. Keeping any animal in a "small container to keep them small" is not only cruel to an extreme, but does not work. I suggest you read up on them on the website link I have provided.
